WORKBENCH / 02

Make room for better packing.

Compare billable weight before and after a packaging change. Keep the rules in view.

01

Measurement & billing rules

Examples, not carrier quotes. Check your service’s divisor, dimension rounding and weight increment. Weight rounds up per carton. A lower billable weight does not guarantee a lower price.

02

Compare two boxes

A Current packaging
B Proposed packaging

Dimensions in cm. Weight in kg. Quantity is the same for both options.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS

A smaller box can change the maths.

Read the methodology ↗

Actual weight versus dimensional weight

Dimensional weight = rounded length × rounded width × rounded height ÷ divisor. Compare it with actual packed weight and round the larger value up by your billing increment, per carton. Then multiply by quantity.

WORKED EXAMPLE / CM · KG · 5,000 · 1 KG STEPS

60 × 40 × 40 cm → 20 kg billable
50 × 40 × 35 cm → 14 kg billable
10 cartons: 60 kg less billable weight

This example uses 12 kg actual weight per carton. If actual weight dominates, smaller packaging may not reduce billable weight. Rate bands and surcharges are not included.
